My magic worked for a couple of months and then suddenly stop responding. The blue light doesn't come on and my computer does not recognize it. After spending hours on an internet chat with support and being transferred to at least 5 "representatives", I'm told that they will ship another unit but I have to pay for shipping and handling.

Annoyed by this, I make it clear that I would rather them fix my ailing unit than to pay for a replacement. They inform me that I don't have to return the defective unit, that why I have to pay for the new unit. I ask where I can complain and I'm given a website support@magicjack.com that was returned becaues it is no longer being used and sends me back to website.

I am so angry. I bought my sister a unit when I started using it and have been telling other people about it. No more!!

This is a VOIP device and it actually is one of the few As Seen On TV items that really does work as aadvertised. I only know of 1 person that had a little trouble. It did not work for outbound calls with their cordless phone bot with a hard wired phone it worked great

Magic Jack is Adware

Magic Jack contains adware. It installs itself in AppData--a hidden folder--NOT in Program Files. It has no uninstall, nor any Exit function, and it autostarts with Windows without telling you. As a result, most users will never be able to get rid of it. And the only way to stop an online order in mid-stream is to kill it's process (you can't go back)--THEN you'll find that the order completed without your authorization. Their EULA is almost as long and complicated as that of Windows, it allows adware, and there's no contact number to call.

When I complained to their online chat tech support about these issues, I was told that no one else had complained of these "features"!

I have triple play through comcast. My phone, cable and internet are paid together. How does magic jack help me here. Do i have to let comcast know that I have the magic jack so that they can adjust my monthly payments, or do I cancel the phone service through comcast? How does this work?

Phil,

That is the great thing About the MagicJack. The receiving party can be a cell phone or a normal home phone. In fact, the other party will have no idea you are calling through your computer. Magic Jack Simply routes the phone call over the Internet. This technology is known as VoIP. There are a number of other services such as Vonage and Skype. However Magic Jack VoIP is by far the cheapest. I should that Skype is free but both parties have to be using a computer which is not very convenient.

Question: Does the receiving party also needs magic jack to receive your phone calls or they don't need to change anything on their phones?

Please send the answer to my email address, thank you.

Cindy,

You do not get free Internet with Magic Jack. You do have to pay for your Internet service. It is important that you have a solid internet connection. I have seen that if you have spotty internet service then it can definitely affect the quality of your phone calls made with the MagicJack. Most Dsl and Cable Internet connections should be sufficient for the Magic Jack phone.

Magic Jack is an excellent device for the price.
I had problem with it but I realized that it was my phone and not magic jack, so I bought a new phone. Since then I have not had any problem. Please don't complain about magic jack. all you need to do is simply change phone and make sure you click on END button.
good luck.
